Isaac Dozier and the Bonfire

isaac dozier, bonfireI can't help it,  love a good bonfire. As a kid, my brother an I used to spend countless hours outside building
bonfires. We weren't very good at it though. You see it in the movies or pictures, a perfect triangular shaped fire. We tried many times to build the structure of our fire pit first, kinda building it a small home, and then lighting the fire. It never worked how I thought it would.

We learn over time, the best way to start a fire is to start small. Very small, i'm talking twigs and dry leaves. The smaller and dryer it is, the better for STARTING a fire. As the fire grows and you have a nice size pile of coals smoldering away, you can then start adding larger sticks and such. A whole log already? Not so fast, you can't jump from twigs to a log, it doesn't work like that.

I whole log requires a lot of energy to be consumed simply to access the energy within the log. Smoke is actually a mix of water vapor and carbon, the water contained within the log must completely evaporate before the energy is released.

Start you fire pit nice and small, slowly work up to larger and larger sticks/logs and you'll be warm and toasty in no time.
